Viking jewelry york, york history with vikings
In 866, a “mighty Viking army” occupied York, and after 876, the Vikings settled in parts of the Yorkshire countryside for a long time. Viking kings ruled the region for nearly a century, known in historical circles as The Viking Kingdom of Jorvik. It was not until AD 954 that the last Viking king, Eric Bloodaxe, was expelled and his kingdom was incorporated into the emerging Anglo-Saxon state. Another well-known scholar of this era was Wolfstein II, Archbishop of York.
