The story of Ragnar Lothbrok
The story of Ragnar Lothbrok
Ragnar Lothbrok (Travis Fimmel), who is a representation of the heroic image of the “half-human and half-god” in Norse legend. The story begins at the dawn of the Vikings – the 8th century AD – when Ragnar Lothbrok was just an ordinary farmer and warrior. Like everyone else, he dreamed of looting for wealth, but he didn’t want to go to the East, but to the West where no one had ever been before—across the oceans, to unknown and mysterious fertile lands. Ragnar and his shipbuilder friend Floki (Gustaf Skarsgard) are secretly working on a new type of “dreadnought” capable of conquering the North Atlantic. If he succeeds, the Vikings will be an entire era ahead of the rest of Europe. Ragnar first had to enlist the support of the tribal chief, Count Haraldson (Gabriel Byrne), but it was not easy – the Count was unwilling to share the glory and power of his success with Ragnar, insisting on sending his warriors to the east, to the Baltic countries and Russia looted. The people in those places were as poor as the Vikings, and Ragnar was increasingly dissatisfied with the Count’s unmotivated and conservative approach, and a conflict was inevitable.
